Beer Guide Now A Wyeast Reseller

Recently Beer Guide was appointed the rights to resell/distribute Wyeast in Australia. Whilst this on its own is no extraordinary feat it does mean that all those homebrewers amongst us now have an option to either try Wyeast for the first time or hopefully pick up some great bargins.

At present for a consumer to purchase Wyeast they either need to purchase it from a Homebrew store, or order it online at any one of the many Homebrew Internet Shops available. Unfortunately the vast majority of these stores are selling stock that has sat on the shelf for a period of time and is not the freshest yeast available.

Thankfully not all stores function in this manner and many offer a scheme similar to the one which Beer Guide will be offering. That is, you the consumer place an order and when the shipment size is met (eg: 72 packs of yeast) an order is placed with Wyeast in the US. This ensures that you only receive the freshest of yeast - and at times access to the range of limited edition yeasts that Wyeast offers.

My plan is to offer Wyeast to you guys similar to a bulk buy purchase. That is when we have enough orders paid for. I'll place an order with Wyeast and ship them to you (as they only ship to one single destination). The final cost would be determined by the number of "smack packs" in an order, plus shipping.

The decision to offer this is a little selfish on my behalf. I wanted to find a way of buying Wyeast cheaper for my own home brewing, but at the same time I thought there would be others who would like to use Wyeast, but found it too expensive buying it through traditional means.

It is rather difficult to place a final price on each smack pack, as it will vary depending on how many people participate in each oder. For example if there are 72 packs ordered shipping is roughly $200 USD. However for 24 packs, shipping is roughly $100 USD. When you share shipping across each packet the more we order, the cheaper the shipping per pack and therefore the final cost is cheaper to yourself.

At this stage I estimate that each smack pack will be around the $15 (AUD) dollar mark delivered to your front door complete with gel/ice pack with each parcel to ensure fresh yeast. But as I mentioned earlier, we order in USD so the final cost will fluctuate slightly with the market and value of our dollar.

As Beer Guide doesn't have an "online store" this will operate similar to an old styled "mail order" system. Simply email me, or reply to each monthly thread in the Homebrew Forum/s stating what you want and how many of each and I'll contact you with the payment options. At this stage paypal or direct deposit only. Orders will be placed with Wyeast at the start of each month, for the previous months purchases with delivery estimated to be around 2-3 weeks from the US to your door as estimated by Wyeast themselves.

Attached is the current Wyeast Catalogue, including all the normal Brewers range, Lambic range and even their Vintner range.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask, this is as new to me as it is to you guys and its quite likely I've left something out.
