All Franziskaner weiss beers are brewed in strict adherence to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Franziskaner's roots can be traced back to 1363. It was in this year that the brewer Seidel Vaterstetter is first mentioned as the owner of the 'brewery next to the Franciscans' in the Munich Residenzstrasse. The name 'Franziskaner' derives from the Franciscan monastery diagonally across the street.
