Pilsner Urquell

Since it was first built in 1840, the Plzen brewery has expanded to meet the growing popularity of Pilsner Urquell and the latest technological innovations of the day. Steam engines were installed in 1857, electric lighting in 1878, and in 1880 Plzen became the only brewery in the world to have its own railway siding. Throughout its history, the brewery has remained faithful to improving production without compromising the taste or quality of its golden beer. Today the state-of-the-art brewery, with its modern production techniques, is still true to the vision of Martin Stelzer - the original architect - who built the best brewery he could, and Josef Groll, the visionary brewmaster who changed the way the world sees beer.
