Common Beer Terms
Lovibond:
A measurement of colour. The scale begins at zero (0) and increases to over five hundred (500). The higher the number, the darker the colour of the beer.
Buckleys Beers
Buckley’s beer was named after William Buckley, the famous escaped convict who lived with the Wathaurung Tribe in the Bellarine Peninsular of Port Phillip Bay from 1803 to 1835 (without a beer!).
His survival led to the ironic expression “You’ve got Buckley’s (chance)”and was one earliest examples of reconciliation. Once you’ve tried our traditionally brewed, non-filtered, full flavoured ales and lagers it will be….. “Buckley’s, or none!”
The Buckley's Pilz (Pilsener) is rapidly gaining cult status in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne. You can get it from a few good bars around Lygon Street (Lygon Cellars) and in the inner city (Penny Blue off little Bourke St.).
The Dark Bock & the Original Ale are already oft appreciated throughout Melbourne. (Try the lounge on swanston street or Panama bar on Smith street.)
