Like the American Stout the Australian Stout is inspired by the original English and Irish Porters and Stouts.

Typically this style produces a high level of experimentation from the smaller brewers who like to frequently re-invent styles.

Bitterness is typically medium to high and smokey, chocolate or roasted flavours commonly dominate.
