Was expecting a strong Chilli beer but this is nothin as overpowering as most chilli beers. Slowly builds up to a slight tingling sensation. Would be great with Chilli Crab. Lovely amber colour with a creamy head that dissapeared rather quickly. As with all Rogue beers it is a terrific experience that does not dissapoint. Will recommend this to all my Chilli Sauce lovers. |

One three letter word will sum up my whole experience. WOW! Before I go to far let me clarify that I am a Chilli Head. (Pepper for our overseas friends). I love my Chillis in all shapes and sizes and grow many varieties myself so I was really hanging out to try this particular offering. The aroma is fantastic and lived up to expectation. At first whiff I would have sworn all I could detect were hops reminicient of Little Creatures Pale Ale and I wasn't sure what to make of it. But then I hadn't a second go and bingo, there were the smoked Jalepenos I was looking for. For those not aware, Chipotles are Smoke-Dried Jalepenos. The appearance is quite appealing produce a dark amber hue with a magnificent and inviting creamy brown head. Carbonation appears to be just about spot on and produced fine bubbles. Be warned, if you do not like hot food at all do not drink this beer. If you enjoy a little warmth you'll love this beer. As soon as it hits your mouth and tongue there is a tingling sensation you normally would only get from a good curry or spicey food that slowly warms up to give a lingering chilli sensation. About the only thing I can summarise the flavours is the best smoked beef chilli con carne you've ever eaten mixed served with a refreshing semi-sweet golden ale. On the whole I think I've found an excellent example of a niche beer that I'd imagine back home (Oregan) would have a good following. I'll definately be buying this again and have no troubles recommending this to someone who enjoys my two loves: Beer and Chillis. |
