We’ve decided to release one of our most radical offerings yet - Murray’s Icon 2IPA - as our first spring seasonal beer. One of the hoppiest beers commercially brewed in the southern hemisphere, Murray’s Icon 2IPA has been packaged in 330ml bottles and made more accessible to craft beer enthusiasts across the country. According to Head Brewer, Shawn Sherlock, Icon is a challenge to brew, but a delight to drink. The huge hop content literally overloads the brewery. “We cannot physically put more hops into this beer,” he says. The beer’s extensive hopping (more than 1kg of hops per 100 litres) creates intense citrus, passionfruit and peppery characteristics – balanced by sweet biscuity malt and a full-bodied, rich-and-round bitter finish. Murray’s Icon 2IPA has 7.5% alcohol by volume.

| I bought this not really knowing what to expect because its been quite a while since I've had a 2IPA but I was glad to see they are exactly as I recall them - strong, bitter and lots of hop character. The colour is a dark amber that is beginning to edge on brown and the head is creamy nice and thick and the bubbles produced are exceptionally fine and long lasting. The aroma whilst good is not quite strong and does not have a lot to it except for a minor floral hint, presumably due to the large number of hops used in its production. It comes in a corked 750ml bottle with a relatively plain label and is presented in a manner that does not do its flavour justice. The flavour itself is bitter, make no mistakes this is a double IPA and it lives up to the style. I would definitely drink this again although the flavour profile lends it to not being a sessionable beer and nor does the cost. For the price of a moderately priced wine this 2IPA will be a little expensive for the average drinker - who will miss out on a great beer. Keep your eyes out for this if you are after a 2IPA, or even just something a little different, you'll enjoy this if you like IPA's and/or hoppy beers. | ||||

Far too hoppy for me. Described as Big on flavour and it definately was with a strong aroma. 1 to 2 bottles are enough in one go. |
