A gentle maltiness on the nose deceives as a massive hop flavour envelopes the tongue.
Lots of organic Perle and Halletauer hops give the correct levels of bitterness, making this delicately hued pilsner true to the German style, as well as enabling it to stand up much better than most lagers to stronger flavours such as mature cheeses, hams and smoked meats, or oily fish.

| Exceptionally pale in colour with a very thin head and fine bubbles this Pilsner took me by suprise a little. I was expecting something a little more bitter and instead Meantime have delivered and very smooth, balanced and easy to drink Lager. The carbonation was quite low, which is the exact opposite of the last Meantime beer I had but the bubbles are very fine and easy on the mouth. Im not sure if it is a result of the low carbonation or not but the head was very thin and disappated quickly. The aroma is a little spicey, but it was also a little chalky which might be a result of the Hersbrucker? I'm not entirely sure as I'm not familar with this hop and the aroma doesn't remind me much of Perle. Overall the result is a very smooth and uncomplicated Lager that would compliment any occassion. Slightly dry and striking a perfectl balanace between the hop bitterness and the sweet malt. The style/naming may be a little misleading for those looking for a bitter beer and therefore used to bitter Pilsners. Just remember though a Pilsner and Lager are similar by definition and design. Definately a beer I would drink again! |
