In 1881 when James Boag established his brewery on the banks of the Esk River, he founded a strong brewing heritage which our brewers today are proud to continue. Boags 1881 Traditional Ale commemorates more than 120 years of the finest breweing tradition. With the careful use of late hopping and shallow fermantation, we have brewed a faithful copy of the ale style of a beer James Boag first brewed in 1881.
