This is a tripel-style (or possibly Belgian golden) ale from the producers of Hoegaarden Wit Bier. Although the beer is very different, it shares some characteristics with weissbiers, particularly in the spicy, lightly fruity aroma. The beer is also slightly hazy, but its colour is more golden.

| Quite a beer. Without knowing what to expect, this beer hits you with strength, flavour and a solid varietal tasting experience. Right off the bat the aroma is strong, sharp and distinct. The stubby I had was “Best Before: 05/05/08” yet there were significant “floaty” bits through the beer – moreso than other beers with solid elements in them hinting at the possibility that this bottle might be a little off. It didn’t taste off at all however, and I was careful during the first swills to not mix it up. The brewers seem to have thrown a fair amount of sweetness into the taste of this beer – too much for mine. Other than that the taste was pretty good overall – smooth enough and with enough bite to balance. A fairly simple stubby bottle with OK labelling, a point off alone for the smaller (than 375mL) 330mL volume it is marketed in. I’m very keen to try more stubbies of this and examine the contents closely for similar solid/”floaty” elements to compare. A fine choice for a strong beer (it is 8.5%) every now and then. | ||||
