Common Beer Terms

Bulk Priming:
A technique used to prime your fermented beer in a single batch rather then individually as you would when bottling. Most people combine a mixture of water and sugar in a second vessel and rack the fermented beer on top of the sugar mixture. They would then bottle from the mixture without adding any sugar to the bottles as it has already mixed with the 'bulk' amount. A hit and miss technique, with as many failures as successful uses. Can also be used in kegging if your gas has run out.

Aroma:
The malty characteristics were very strong and very biscuit like but were rounded out nicely with a grassy finish (probably due to its hopping). The malt was quite overpowering at first, however the overall aroma is not that powerful.

Appearance:

A very dark and thickly textured beer that is near on impossible to see through. However when held to the light there is a slight reddish hue with a creamy and inviting head sitting  proudly on top.

Taste:
Moonshine is like a christmas pudding in a glass - this a combination of flavours that reminded me of: Dates, Sultanas, Liqourice, Spices and Espresso to name some. The alcohol content is a little higher and reminded me of a Belgian Dubbel initially but ended in a flavour I can only best describe as strong rum-balls? Overall an excellent balance of flavours.

Drinkability:
The success of a fantastic, unbelievable beer is typically its affordability and drinkability. Despite this being nearly everything one could hope for in a dark winter warmer the higher cost and strength of the beer limits the number you could have in a row. Savour this one, and drink reponsibly.

All I can say right off is 'WOW!' Opened a bottle of this and poured it, getting a nice burnt malt aroma. The head was small but intense, with a tinge of brown that dissipated quickly. The colour was a deep brown with a slight reddish tint. The flavour on first taste was intensly heavy, with subsequent sips mellower. Maybe that was because the alcohol numbed my mouth out, but no matter, it was gooood! This would be heaven if I had it on tap. It was very drinkable, going down almost too well. If you don't like heavy dark brews, then stay away from this one and opt for their Moonlight.
