Common Beer Terms

Chill Haze:
A cloudiness, or haze that occurs in beer when it gets cold as a result of the proteins and polyphenols bonding with hydrogen. Once the beer warms up this should disappear. It is possible to add clarifying agents to beer to prevent chill haze from occurring.

I firstly must admit I've never tried either of the partial beers that make up this Black & Tan. However I am hesitant to do so now after this review.

Black & Tan pours a deep red colour thanks to the blend, it has a minimal head and is lightly carbonated - the head retention was nearly non-existant.
There is a sweet malty aroma, with a coffee and burnt/toasted following towards the end. I couldn't detect any hops, which is odd given the overall bitterness of the beer.

The beer itself is watery and an initial sweet chocolate flavour is replaced quickly by a strong bitterness that at times reminded me of capers and/or salty water. The aftertaste was very salty and not very enjoyable.

The malty flavours were more prominent as it warmed up (I drank this very slowly, as I didn't enjoy it) but I'll stick to another Black & Tan in the future.
