Birra Moretti is a genuine beer produced using a traditional process that has remained almost unchanged since 1859. To produce Birra Moretti, only the highest quality raw materials are used and a particular mixture of valuable hops, that gives the beer its aroma and unique fragrance, intensifying the slight bitter flavour. It is a low fermented beer that has a golden colour, the tone of which is given by the quality of malt used. The alcoholic content is 4,6% volume that make it suitable to drink at any time of the day. In fact it is a perfect accompaniment to both dinner and lunch or to drink in the evening with friends.

This is an everyday run of the mill Pale Lager. Nothing fancy, but not rubbish either. Unfortunately a lot of Pale Lagers just don't stand out, and are in fact rather plain. There is very little aroma, although what I can detect reminds me of lemons - not fresh lemons, but rather that artificial dishwasher refresher lemon. Not unpleasant, just not quite what I look for in a beer. Very little activity on the bubble front after pouring resulted in a lack lustre head being formed and the pale straw colour is stock standard. Overall, it appears no different to any Pale Lager (which was expected anyway). On to the taste, and it is quite bland actually. It is similar to a Barefoot Radler in flavour if I had to compare it to a beer or style. Due only in part to the lemon and citrus flavours, Radler wipes the floor with this Lager though and an unfair comparison to Radler. The mouthfeel is good, small bubbles result in an unobtrusive carbonation and the feel is not watery like my review of St Arnou's Premium Blonde. Overall this is far from a standout beer given the price-tag, and would be best suited to those looking for an easy to drink session beer - although it would be more costly compared to a typical Aussie macro. |

A crisp, clean yellow-gold hue, very easy on the eye and so full of promise, though the lack-lustre head quickly and sadly dissopates. Quite a prickly fragrance, very bready and estery all the way to the back of the nose, slightly softened with a smattering of banana. Pleasant taste, though somewhat lacking character and complexity, a bit on the watery side. Low bitterness, low malt, but nice mid-range wheat flavour, with hints of apricot and butterscotch if you hold your tongue in the right position. Delicate, consistent carbonation and quite lively in the mouth in terms of fizz and subtle sweetness mid-palate. Overall a pleasant and inoffensive mouth feel and flavour, enough to make the taste buds smile politely, but they weren't bothering to get dressed for the party, opting instead for a quiet night in. A slightly nutty, peppery after taste, with a suggestion of lemon. Not a standout beer, with fruitiness that belies its lager classification, went down as more of a skimpy ale to my mind. Never the less, easy enough to drink and could knock back a few with a Chicken Kiev or anything cooked with lots of butter, cheese or herbs. |
