Poured a deep reddish brown with a small, off-white head. Aroma was of carmal malt with a bit of molassas mixed in. The taste was smooth, similar to Tooheys Old, but sweeter, and had a nice finish. I had two of these brews. One had a foil wrap at the top and came to Australia via the United States as it had the pre-requisite state recycling info and U.S. government warning. The other was a direct import from Russia as the label was in Cyrillic, the bottle a different shape, and had cyrillic 'Baltika' embossed in the glass. Happily, the end product was exactly the same. A nice drinker this, but in the end I think I would prefer Tooheys Old for half the price. |
