A powerfull, dark blond ale. Its fruity, bittersweet taste gives it a special character.

| A good dark colour with a soft white head that dissapeared very quickly. A nice aroma but an average beer for a very pricey beer. Will buy other La Trappe beers before this one. | ||||

| The aroma which is escaping from this Tripel is reasonably strong and reminds me of cloves, toffee and fruity characteristics like apples or pears. The yeast is barely detectable, but if you have a keen nose you might sense it. It pours a very dark colour, I was expecting a lighter colour and I must have distrubed the yeast as it is quite cloudy. A thin head, but what is there is foamy and as the beer is carbonated well I expect it to last the whole beer. Thin bodied and light on alcohol Tripel leaves a sweet refreshing aftertaste with a little metallic twinge to it. Initially you are presented quite sweet flavours, with a nice hoppy balance and a yeasty flavour. Overall no one flavour comes through as a primary flavour and all the flavours play off each other nicely to leave a balanced but slightly bittersweet flavour. I've read other reviews on this beer where people say the alcohol flavour is too strong, but I didn't think so - perhaps this is just a personal preference thing? A good all round beer and a top shelf example of a Trappist beer in Australia. My only gripe with this beer is the price - around 18 bucks for a 4 pack which I don't think is justisfied given the beer isn't a standout. |
