Lovely dark colour with a sweet malty taste. Very unique style that is very easy to get used to. Pity it is a bit expensive as it could be a great session beer.

The colour is dark brown, not black and has a reddish tint to it the head is thin and whilst initially foamy quickly disipated.

There wasn't a whole lot of aroma compared with other La Trappe offerings and in this case it was sweet, malty (toffee & caramel) and had hints of hops and fruits.

Flavourwise, its a unique flavour yet shares some similarities to Leffe Brune. There is the increased alcohol levels which leaves its unique aftertaste but up front is a complex mixture of malts, cherries and belgium yeast. It is quite hard for me to put into words the flavour as it is very distinct and nothing like I have tasted before - but definately I want to drink again and try more of this style.

Overall as I've noticed with all La Trappe beers it is of a very high quality but carries a high price tag to match. Try this one simply to expand your palate and determine if you enjoy the style or not.
