Common Beer Terms

Light Struck:
When iso-alpha-acids come into contact with light near the ultra-violet spectrum, the light breaks off part of the chain of iso-alpha-acids forming MTB. MTB is a skunky compound which is detectable even in low concentrations. Lightstrike will ruin the flavour, appearance and aroma of a beer and should be avoided at all costs - typically by bottling in dark brown or green bottles.

About Beer Guide Australia

Why Beer Guide

The idea for a beer review and ratings web site came to me whilst I was down at my local bottle shop. In front of me was a large selection of beers that at the time I had neither heard of, nor tried. When I asked the shop assistant what they tasted like, I got a very blank stare and a shrug of the shoulders..

From that point on I realised that there had to be a better way for me to try some of the great untasted beers, and beers from the smaller boutiques that many of us may not have heard of, around 18 months later Beer Guide Australia (www.beerguide.com.au) was born..

How We Work

Beers taste different to everyone, and everyone has different taste buds. For this reason it would be pointless for me to tell you what is great and you rely on my single opinion alone. You would most likely be upset and disappointed on at least one occassion due to my reviews and the sole purpose of this site would be negated..

To avoid this, we allow you as the reader to have an input into the site too. Once you try a Beer feel free to submit your review to our site. Beer Guide Australia is about sharing everyones experiences, not just one persons potentially bias opinion.

In doing so, you not only allow other viewers to read your opinion, but to also determine what the larger population feels too.
